Drywall Joints and Electrical Boxes

by Ed H
(Belfair, WA)

I'm drywalling a ceiling that (unfortunately) is 12' -1" wide and has electrical boxes for light fixtures right on the centerline of the ceiling. I obviously don't want to end up with a 1" wide strip down one side of the room, but if I start out with a 2' wide piece on one side, one long joint ends up going right thru the electrical boxes. Is there anything wrong with having a drywall joint running thru the electrical boxes, or do the drywall sheets somehow need to be positioned (for better strength) such that a joint doesn't end up going thru the electrical boxes? Or does it matter?

Drywall around electrical box NEW
by: DrywallTeam

Hello,

I am sorry for the late response some system issues.
No it is not an issue to mudd and tape with the electrical box to have a seam. If you are using 12 ft sheets. I would still break them up to stagger it to prevent having the one inch strip. Especially since you do not want one long running seem either.
I hope this helps if you have any additional questions let me know. Or if you want to post pictures I can walk you through it.

Thanks for your time and stopping by.

Tyler
