Welcome to our step by step instructions on how to repair drywall!

Drywall is a strong and durable surface, but it is far from invincible. Our walls take a beating, let’s face it.

Whether due to the routine settlement of a house, the movement of furniture, a random nail-pop, or just a plain old temper tantrum (we can pretend they don’t happen, but they do), sooner or later your walls may need a little TLC and drywall repair.

Doorknobs are a common enemy of drywall, causing dents and small holes. Children can be toxic to drywall as well – such as when the interior of a home is mistaken for a baseball stadium or a demolition derby.

Many things can cause damage to drywall, and not all of them are under our control.

But don’t panic. One of the great perks of drywall is the ease with which it can be repaired. With just a few materials and tools, you can have that banged-up wall looking as good as new.

Most repairs involve only fiberglass mesh drywall tape, some drywall compound, a trowel (or drywall knife), and some 150 grit sandpaper.

Since the process for tackling minor drywall damage varies depending on the scope of the problem, we’ve broken them up into separate pages below.

Each of the links below will provide detailed, step by step instructions for repairing drywall, as well as lists of necessary tools and materials for each job.
